Preventative Maintenance

In Motion Automotive knows that you rely on our vehicle to get you and your family everywhere. Obviously you want your vehicles to run smoothly and do so for a very long time. If you’re not staying on top of the maintenance services that your vehicle requires, it is not getting the attention it needs to live its longest life. In Motion Automotive recommends the following preventative maintenance services in order to keep your vehicle in top operating order:

In Motion Automotive recommends the following every 6 months.

Oil & oil filter change:

Please refer to your vehicle manufacturer recommendations.

Your vehicle needs regular oil and oil filter changes, this is a must. The motor oil lubricates the engine, keeps your vehicle from overheating, and keeps your engine running as it should. Naturally, the oil gets dirty and and needs to be changed.

During an oil change, your car gets new oil and a new filter.

If you are not sure how frequently you should get an oil change please review your vehicles suggested recommendations for oil and oil filter changes. If you’re not sure when you should have your oil and oil filter replaced, just give us a call and we will ensure that you have the correct recommendation.

Rotate your tires:

Over time and with mileage, all tires wear down but there are issues that can impact how that wear happens. For instance, your front tires will typically work harder and wear more quickly than your back tires.

With a tire rotation, your tires are removed, inspected, if no issues are found, then swapped from front to back and remounted. Rotating your tires regularly helps keep the wear evenly distributed to help them wear at the same rate.

Your tires should be rotated every six months or every 6,000 to 8,000 miles.

Balance and align wheels:

Balancing your wheels and getting an alignment is just as important to the life of your tires. Ensuring that you are routinely getting them balanced and aligned will ensure that weight is distributed equally around the axel so that your tires do not wear unevenly.

Wheel alignment consists of making sure that your tires are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the road, which will improve how your vehicle drives and maximize fuel efficiency.

In Motion Automotive recommends the following every 6 months.

Replace your windshield wipers:

Windshield wipers aren’t something that you have to typically rely on every day. But when you need them, you need them to work. Over time your windshield wipers will stop making proper contact with your windshield, this causes them to streak and smear which will result in reduced visibility and increase your chance of an accident.

Rain, sleet, snow, and sun, will eventually deteriorate the rubber on your wiper blades. This deterioration leads to decreased visibility which can cause you to have an accident. In Motion Automotive recommends that you have your windshield wipers inspected and replaced when you notice they aren’t providing you a safe view of the road.

In Motion Automotive recommends the following every 3 to 5 years.

Service your battery.

Vehicle won’t start? A dead battery can leave you stuck at the most inconvenient times, although it’s always inconvenient to be stuck!

If you’re experiencing issues or you’ve had your battery for a long time, you can bring your car into In Motion Automotive for a battery test. We will let you know if your battery needs to just be charged, or if it’s time for a new one.

In Motion Automotive recommends the following every 30,000 miles.

Replace spark plugs:

Your vehicle’s spark plugs are responsible for starting your car. Over time, spark plugs can face problems caused by extreme temperatures, normal wear and tear, and contaminants.

Most manufacturers suggest getting new spark plugs every 30,000 miles or so.

In Motion Automotive also recommends the following at various mileage intervals

Change your interior and exterior filters:

Your oil filter isn’t the only filter your vehicle depends on.

Your vehicle’s air filter removes dust and debris from the air before it goes into the engine. Replace your air filter every 30-40,000 miles, or according to manufacturer specifications.

Your vehicle’s cabin air filter cleans the air before it flows through your air conditioner, preventing you from getting a face full of pollen, dust, and other pollutants. Replace your cabin air filter every 15-20,000 miles, or once a year.

Your vehicle’s fuel filter keeps dirt, debris, and other contaminants from obstructing and clogging up your fuel lines. Replace the fuel filter every 20-40,000 miles, or according to manufacturer specifications.

All of these filters will get dirty, clogged, and contaminated over time, meaning that they need to be regularly replaced in order to do their job effectively.
